Thursday 17th September.

Arrived in Cavalaire sur Mer.Very busy, all the town sites full, yet again the most reasonable option is a site a 25 minute walk out of town up a steep hill. Great site, big shaded pitches with tap and electric on each pitch. Decent size pool with fantastic views. Also fabulous restaurant with terrace looking down the valley to the sea. Free bus to town 9.10 am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Returns 11 am. Took the bus on Wednesday, great swim and coffee in town decided to walk back. really uncomfortable in heat which Jonesy didn't like at all. Previous evening tried it with bikes but couldn't do the last 200 metres with Jonesy in carriage. Yet again Barbara fell off her bike. Probably move on Saturday. Today Friday went to the town beach alone on bike. Lovely swim and without Jonesy in tow managed the hill return ok.

Tuesday 15th September

Left L'Artaudois site heading for Cavalaire sur mer.

13th September

Still on Camping L'Artaudois. We remain impressed with the site but not the hills. Spent the last few mornings in the local town at the foot of steady hill. Had coffee and today Sunday visited the car boot sale where we bought a silver plated bottle opener for 2 euros. Will probably go down the steep slope for another beach swim.

Friday 11th September

Arrived at Camping L'Artaudois near Toulon yesterday. Great site but a hilly location 20 minute walk to beach. Impressed with huge heated pool, nice pitch with water and electric 23 euros. Thought guy in pool looked like Tony Soprano.

Thursday 10th September just arrived on French Riviera.

We spent last night in Sisteron, nice overnight stopover on the river. Another scouser on the next pitch so we exchanged best money saving scams and ideas and laughed about our travel mishaps. Watched the Liverpool v Athletico game and drank yet more beer and wine. Left site just after 9am ,arrived on med coast around 11.30. photos of Sisteron.

Wednesday 9th September.

We left Le Bourg d'Oissons after 3 relaxing days on Camping Cascade. I like the very relaxed attitude here to booking in and payment, basically they want you to drive in and find your own pitch. No closure for lunch, no barrier , not even a registration process, just pay when you leave. Also unlike the other sites in the area the swimming pool was still open and boy did we need it with temperatures for the 3 days at 32c.Everything is clean although quite basic and everything works. Pleasant town with plenty of coffee shops and outdoor wear shops all selling there clothes off at end of season sale.

Sunday 6th September.

Spent the weekend relaxing in temperatures of 32c. Only left the shade of the site to travel to one of the many beaches for a swim in the lake . Left Annecy Sunday early to travel to Le Bourg de Oissons in the alps hoping for cooler temps. However on arrival temps here were 32c. Lovely little pool on site to cool off.

Cycle ride to Doussard.

Was due to set off 10am but discovered puncture on barbs bike. Repaired but decided to nip to bank. Eventually set off for Doussard about 2.30. Pleasant ride through tunnels etc but yet again found dogs not allowed on beach at Doussard. Headed back to plage near site and swam there. Heatwave of 35c temps expected at weekend.

Thursday 3rd september.

Yesterday, Wednesday, we caught the bus outside the site and went into Annecy Town. Had a nice coffee, people watched, walked in the park, strolled the prom and then went and had lunch. Buses really easy and on time.

Tuesday 1st September.

Went out on bike early morning to check ot availability at other sites...all full . Had a cycle around and started to realise the site we are on is fine. Easy access to cycle paths, bus stops virtually outside, Aldi, Lidl and all the best beaches about 10 minute bike ride. It'll do. Heatwave on the way and our pitch is well shaded. Cycled back to site and paid for 3 more nights at 21 euros a night, nice lunch then cycled to St Jorioz plage for a lovely swim.

Sunday 30th August.

Arrived at the Vermenton site only to realise that we came here last year and loved it then,so peaceful. Monday 31st August left Vermenton and arrived at Annecy to find most of the sites full. Pitched at Camping les Champs Fleuris a 10 minute walk to lake beaches . Tonight is 36 euros but this drops to 21 tomorrow when Acsi rates kick in. It's not quite what we wanted but will do unless we get a better option tomorrow.

Friday 28th August 2026

Got the 07.50 ferry to Calais, took off on time and arrived on time. Drove to another favourite of ours the municipal site at Sezanne. Stopped 2 nights but not warm enough for the great pool. Saturday walked into town, browsed through the charity shop, had a coffee and got back for liverpool game on telly.

Thursday 27th August

Left our house a6 6.30am to travel down to Chichester on south coast to have our flyscreen repaired. Didnt hit any serious traffic but it still took 6 hours. Job done and set off toward Ashford in Kent. Another 3 hours to get to our regular pub stop at Boughton Lees.....The Flying Horse. Great meal and a few pints, i keep telling people how good this place is.

Just outside Calais, boat morning.

On Chateau du Gandspette outside Calais. 6 hour drive from Gien. Traffic busy but first site we went to were shut for lunch. Didnt fancy 2 hr wait in sun ,decided to get closer to Calais for earlier ferry. Site nice, pool small. Only problem is dog on next pitch in season so Jonesy won't settle. Taking him to the bar to drown his sorrows. Spotted a croquet match but professionals like myself not allowed. Off to Tim's in Reading tomorrow for Grandkids questioning and interrogation.

Wednesday, 27 May 2026

Just testing the 50 cent glasses and surprisingly they work great.

Camping Les Bois Du Bardelet, near Gien.

Another 3 hours closer to home and another scorcher. Again in close season we arrived to find reception closing at 12 noon and again we had 15 minutes to spare . Wow I just wouldn't want to wait 2 hours on the wrong side of the barrier so got to our pitch and settled in. 3 small pools spread about the site but they are small. Looking to swim in the small lake when it cools down. Restaurant looks inviting.

Return to Vichy.

Left Millau and stopped at Saint Chely D' Apcher. Parked in town camping aire, walked 200 metres to the vets walked in with no appointment. All pre sailing checks and worming done, 44 euros. Out in 10.minutes. Even had time to call in at the charity shop, bought 4 nice beer glasses for 0.50c each. Result. Stopped at Leclerc in Vichy, filled up with fuel. Popped in to examine the wine whilst Barbara did her customary song and dance.... "haven't you got enough wine". I gave my customary answer in French, which she'll never understand. Off to Beau Rivage camping..Great site (but I've already told you that if you were listening.) Jonesy had his holiday tummy so stayed in the van while we went to a lovely riverside restaurant.

Tuesday, 26 May 2026

Loved Argeles, more than ever but had to head home.

A great stay. Arrived at Millau before 12 at Camping Les Rivages. Took a pitch by the river as it was 32c. Nice site not used before.sat around waiting for it to cool ,took Jonesy for a paddle and later swam in the pool, 28c pool temp too warm ,should have joined Jonesy in the river with our Herbert!! Cycled into Millau to our favourite bar, closed so went over the road. Our search to draw cash out without charges finally over no charge in Millau. Euros now available for next trip. Tried telling Barbara we don't need cash!
