Thursday 3rd November.
Left Traben-Trarbach this morning with the intention of staying overnight in the Calaiis area but yet again we amended our booking and got 1620 afternoon train. Now overnighting on the Hertford site. Up early tomorrow and hopefully get home for 12 pictures of the brill stellplatz at Traben-Trarbach and an interesting vehicle on a nea pitch. Looks like an Adrian caravan on a lorry.

Wednesday 2nd November.
Moselle. First stop Dr Christian marks, the eccentric vet in Bernkastel-Kues. Walked in, no appointment and seen right away. He cracked a couple of funnies, well more precisely digs at Germanys dark past and then a quick go at the French warning us that we might get wet going through the tunnel as it was made with French steel. Charge 15 euros.. Great price as most European vets charge over 40 euros. More than last time which was made free in an effort to compensate my dad for his war wounds. He loves the British..
Walk around the town in the beautiful autumn sunshine. Then off to one of our favourite stellplatz at Traben Trabach. Riverside pitch, electric showers, toilets and Internet for 14 euros. Set up and another Riverside walk into Trabem where we had a pint on a hotel terrace overlooking the river
Tuesday 1st November . All saints day.
A bank holiday where EVERYTHING IS Shut. We left Fussen and drove to Heidelberg staying on the stellplatz in the city. Still about a 60 minute walk to the old town so glad we did that earlier in the trip. Still walked into the modern city area, weather still warm, had a beer and strolled back. Stellplatz 20e a night with lecky. Toilets and showers in sports arena next door.

Fussen Germany
I don't often say this but I really enjoyed the drive from Lake Garda to fussen, Germany. The sun was shining the sky was blue and even the roads were quiet. As we entered Austria and drove through the Fermpass, again with relatively empty roads, the views were amazing, enriched with all the autumn colours. As it was a Bank Holiday weekend Fussen itself was busy. We enjoyed a walk into town after taking some photos of the lake.
31st october
We left Italy with a heavy heart. Its been good to us on this trip showing us its beautiful landscapes, amazing medieval cities and fabulous beach resorts in its southern boot. The highlights were Matera. Peschici, otranto and finally Tropea with its torquiose sea and ivory beaches.
One thing we did note on our travels throughout Italy is the presence of a North South divide. This is far more severe than our own UK one but is a total reverse with Italys south being the poorer. The south is affected in the following ways.
Public services. Rubbish is often pilled up at the side of the road, you rarely see a bin waggon.
The roads are atrocious and poorly maintained.
People wear practical clothing. In the North at times when you're sat at a bar it felt like you were observing a cat walk.
The south has its fair share of old and battered fiat's. In the North you will see a fair amount of ferraris, lamborghinis and porches.
But if you asked me where would I prefer to holiday I'd gladly say the southe

Last two nights in italy.
Really enjoyed 2 nights at the la Palme site on Garda. A few kids about fot Halloween weekend but great site and weather still 25c.
Great stopover between Rome and Florence.
Citya Della Pieve is the name of the place. A small medieval town up high. The municipality encourages motorhomers by providing a flat and free parking area 5 minutes walk from town centre. Electric hook up powerful enough to heat water. A beautiful stopover. Met an English couple with a blind foxterrier, they live here but recommended monteppulciano as another great place... Next time.

Paestum.
After Tropea we arrived in Paestum, a town we visited in 2020 but had to quickly leave as Italy was set to be on the UK's red list due to rising covid rates. Its a place we like but would never recommend due to it being run down in parts. The site is good the beach is dog friendly and great for swimming. We enjoyed 2 nights here but now know that there are better places further south.

Leaving Tropea
Weather couldn't have been better. Clear sun every day with the thermometer always rising above 25c. Tropea itself was absolutely stunning and we enjoyed some fabulous restaurants , but after 6 days it was time to start heading home. But here's a few more pictures

Tropea
There I was driving along wondering which is the best place we've visited so far on this trip. Methinks either Peschici or Otranto. But, according to barbs logic, the pin had been stuck into the map and we had Tropea left. Our most southern venue was on the horizon. What a place, love at first sight. Campsite right on the beach, pitch with sea view, 25yd walk to dip your toe, torquise sea, great selection of bars and restaurants in the town. Incidently the city, yes it even has a cathedral, is a 5 minute walk from the site, but wait for it... Up 100 steps. The way it's looking Tropea might end up being the most beautiful European resort I've ever visited, but hold the front page.

Lecce to Corigliano Rossano
We are stiil travelling the foot of Italy and yesterday saw us travel the arch of the foot arriving at camping Onda Azzurra near Corigliano. A fine site right on a nice beach. The German winter stayers were in force here attracted by the mild winter. Not many pitches left but we got a decent one and at 17.50 a night a good overnight stopping off place.

Lecce 19th October
Lecce was never going to be missed. We'd heard many good reports about it. However with no recognised camper stop we decided to park in the safe car park close to the train station. A typical lightning tour of the city completed in 2 hours. What a beautiful place
My favourite had to be the roman amphitheatre with a guy playing a street piano in the background. Pure bliss.
