11 nights in Roses

We've always liked and enjoyed Roses but when we returned to meet up with the rest of the'cackling dolphins' ...Dave, Carol, Owen and Alex, we couldn't help but notice how the area had gone through a bit of an refurbishment and upgrade. There were new building that were quite stylish and some of the more tired buildings had been smartened up considerably. New bars and restaurants had popped up and although the weather wasn't great we had a really good time. First 3 days were sunny but very windy then it went cold with the odd shower for the next 4 days. However when Alex, Carol and Dave departed and we were left with Owen the wind dropped and the sun came out with temps hitting 26c. We went on the Tractor train along the coast and through some of the mountains with Owen and Alex getting quite distressed when the 'train' pulled along narrow cliff edges and looked down on the emerald sea. A great trip. Then on one of the days we went on a boat trip to Cadaques. Again a trip to the bars and restaurants took precedent over a wander around this beautiful seaside village. In Roses itself we found the best of the bars and restaurants at night and although i dragged the boys off to Figueras to see the Dali museaum it was dissapointing to discover that it was full and we wouldn't be able to get in. As stated the 3 days with Owen gave us good weather and we managed to swim in the cold sea on each of these days. The visit to the Hotel Montecarlo buffet on one of the nights was a great success and good value at 21e a head with a bottle of wine thrown in.
