Sunday 2nd October 2022

After leaving Termoli we were intending to travel to Vieste but I noticed the town of Peschici on the same peninsula , north of Bari. There seemed to be several campsites and sosta’s open in Peschici so we headed there. Boy were we so glad we chose to come here, it was exactly the kind of place we like. Basic campsite on the beach with 6amp electric, clean facilities and a popular restaurant. For a hot shower you paid 1 euro for 4 tokens and the lady on reception didn’t mess about “19 euros a night if you pay me cash; an extra 1.60 each per night tourist tax if you pay by card”. We picked our spot ,settled in and then went for a swim on the beach. Fabulous empty beach with great views of the old town. The next day Sunday 2nd of September, Barbara informed me that she’d heard fireworks in the night. Then at 8am the sound of a cannon gun could be heard going off 6 times. Some sort of festival? Up and out early and into the old town. Again fabulous views as we climbed the hairpin bends into the town. We drew some euros out from the bank atm, no charges and then heard the sound of a brass band playing. We were like snakes taken in by the charmers music. We sat and listened until the band headed off and marched to the nearby church where people in varying robes discharged themselves from the church before congregating on mass outside. Whatever they were doing we left them to it and continued to wind through the medieval section of the town until we arrived on the beautiful beach and made our way to the campsite.
