7,8,9,10th September, Camping La Marende, Argeles sur Mer.

We've visited this area a few times before so we already knew some good sites. I'd always fancied Les Criques de Porteils as it is also close to Collioure, but when we looked at it we were disappointed with its small pool along with other things. We played safe and booked in to La Marande. Close to A dog beach, a really good pool, large pitches with an abundance of shade. It was only a short walk to Argeles centre. We had 4 great nights here. Jonesy loved the water, still not keen to go out of his depth but he overcome his fear of waves

Argeles Sur Mer

5th & 6th September. Domaine de gajan site Boisseron.

Definitely a site I would recommend. Peaceful, a great heated pool and large pitches. Nearby town was OK but no real shops. It was still boiling hot, so shade and regular dips were needed. We needed the cool shade of the coast so after 2 nights headed for Argeles.

3rd & 4th September L'Hippocampe site at Volonne

A good site, but not too sure of the location. Positioned on a damned river so water quite still at times, a breeding ground for the many mozzies that come out as soon as the sun goes down.  Also the town wasn't up to much. We loved the pool, and there seemed to be lots of activities to get involved in. Got talking to a Dutch couple with a very friendly Irish terrier. She and Jonesy got on well. The river wasn't quite as blue as the picture, overall a descent overnight stopover
Riverside walk into Volonne.

Lake Monteynard

After 3 lovely nights on Lac d‘Aiguebelette we headed further south to lake Monteynard. There were 2 Acsi sites close to Treffort and we chose the dearest one at 13 euros a night as it was right on the lake with excellent free WiFi and a superb restaurant. It was also next to a chateaux/ restaurant and as it was positioned at the end of the road it had some lakeside walking routes and pathways. A good choice but not sure if there would be enough here to keep us occupied for more than 2 nights.

Lac d‘Aiguebelette

We spent the nights of the 29,30,31 of August at camping Sorgey Lac d‘Aiguebelette. We'd visited this area some years back when returning from Sardinia. It's reported to be the warmest lake in France  and with a water temp of 26c it must be! The site was in great location with a designated beach area. Public beaches are not evident as you have to pay to use lakeside swimming areas. Although it was a great site I was left feeling a bit suspicious when they added a further 10% on the bill (acsi rate 15e per night) for taxes but didn't give us a receipt.

26th August

Another hot day. We slipped out of Vouecourt and headed for the motorway. We didn't want to get in the afternoon heat so put some fast miles in to our next destination Matour near Macon. A place we last visited in 2010. Main attractions here are a good pool and some nice countryside to go walking in Unfortunately with temps in the mid 30,s and one day when it reached 38c it was too hot to walk far, so we spent our 3 days here chilling out and swimming in the pool.

Vouecourt

Vouecourt cost of camping 14.90 euros There's an excellent cycle path between the river and the canal that runs a fair distance

25th August

Heading south past Reims towards Chaumont we found a gem of a site at Vouecourt. Nothing in the village apart from a number of charming houses and the mayors building. However the site sits next to a beautiful river, bridge and church. Pity we only stayed one night.

24th August 2016

We got off the train around 10.30 and decided to avoid the toll road to Reims heading for Lille. Coming off the motorway at Bailleul ind. Zone we filled up with fuel and groceries and set off for our first stop...Fourmies a good site in woods next to a lake. Cost 16.90 euros.

23 August 2016

The cry from English motorhomers is that we should have something like the French Aires system, well The Flying Horse pub at Boughton Lees goes towards proving that we do. It took us 8 hours through busy traffic to get here but it was worth it. A nice pub with good grub and ale, overlooking a village green and cricket pitch. We parked in the car park but it also has a paddock at the back where 2 other vans parked. We met another Welsh Terrier at the pub and the next day it was only a 20 minute drive to the channel tunnel
