12th November 2014

We arrived in Cairns at about 9am Sunday morning, a good flight of about 2 hours 20 mins! After picking up the hire car we drove the 13 miles North up the beautiful Captain Cook highway to our room in Palm Cove. This is a stunning area with paradise like beaches of golden sands skirted by Palm trees. Its a quiet sophisticated resort of lovely bars and restaurants that run alongside the ocean for a distance of one mile. This in my opinion is the best part of Oz and a bit like the Oz I expected, completely free of high rise buildings. Yesterday we went on the skyrail, a 7.5km ride over the tops of the rainforest and ends at the town of Kuranda. After a few hours exploring this town we returned via the old scenic railway again through the rainforest. Both rides offer you the option to step off and view the Forrest and waterfalls...a great day out. Tomorrow we go for a full day snorkelling on The Great Barrier Reef. Our b&b is exceptional and really comfortable, positioned about 50 yDS from the beach and a place called Dead Mans Gully where there are a couple of Crocodiles. WE‘ve seen the tracks they leave but are unlikely to see the crocs. Just wish we‘de given ourselves a bit longer in this Paradise.
