September 23 · See, Germany

Another glorious day, a day that just happens with little planning. We find ourselves in some beautiful places but unfortunately can never stay too long because in effect we are heading home. So from Fussen we only drove 37 miles to camping Alpsee near Immenstadt. The site didn't look much as we approached it and a guy in front must have thought the same as he quickly turned around and headed off. But it turned out to be another great one, right on a beautiful lake. We set up,... had lunch and then walked 10k around the lake. Temps were around 21c. A magnificently restored steam train went roaring past but I only had time to catch the back end of it on camera. We stopped at a lakeside bar in the late afternoon sun and just relaxed with a couple of pints. Then after changing we discovered a tempting lakeside restaurant where we had a great meal as we watched the sun go down. Thanks to the German couple who helped us with the order. Unfortunately my German is limited to the few words I learned from The Hotspur and Victor comics but "Achtung" and "Donna und Blitzen" didn't seem appropriate here. Fortunately the German lady ordered white wine instead of our customary red and then we got into a conversation about German wine and how they are so good at sending us their worst wines (liebfraumilch) whilst keeping the best

to themselves. Lovely meal, home to bed.
